Amber Films has been documenting the North East coast, industrial landscapes and its communities for over 40 years. They gave an excellent talk and presentation to the Wallsend Local History Society on 10 February 2014. Their presentation included a short film called ‘Launch,’ about the launch of the World Unicorn supertanker, and the men and women of Swan Hunter’s shipyard who built it.
With the help of Heritage Lottery funding, Amber is planning to redevelop the Side Gallery in Newcastle and extend access to Amber’s unique archive of documentary film and photography to the public. The project also sees a series of learning and participation projects working with communities which the group has previously documented. Wallsend is one of them and, over a period of three years, Amber hopes to develop a number of projects there.
